PolymerHeizfolien, or polymer heating foils, are ultrathin, flexible heating elements designed to generate heat when electrical power is applied. They consist of a polymer substrate, typically a polyester film such as PET, with a printed or deposited conductive layer and an optional protective coating. The conductive layer is commonly carbon-based ink or metalized materials, applied in a defined pattern to form a resistive heating circuit.

Heat is produced by electrical resistance as current flows through the conductive track. The film is designed to be thin and lightweight, allowing it to conform to curved surfaces and be integrated into various products. Power output depends on the sheet resistance and applied voltage, enabling compact, low-profile heating solutions. The construction often includes an adhesive layer for mounting and a protective overlayer to improve durability and safety.

Key advantages include low thickness, high flexibility, rapid response, and uniform heat distribution over the heated area. They are suitable for custom shapes and can be cut to size. Limitations include mechanical vulnerability to puncture, limited maximum heat output per area, and the need for proper insulation and temperature control. System safety relies on electrical protection, appropriate insulation, and integration with control electronics.

Applications span underfloor and wall heating, surface heating in furniture or appliances, defogging and de-icing, and certain climate-control or comfort-enhancing uses in greenhouses and automotive contexts. Manufacturing typically employs printing technologies such as screen printing or inkjet, followed by lamination and encapsulation. Compliance with electrical safety standards and environmental considerations are important aspects of product development and deployment.
