Polyhymnia, also spelled Polymnia, is one of the nine Muses in ancient Greek mythology. Her name derives from Greek elements meaning “many hymns” or “the hymnist.” She is traditionally regarded as the muse of sacred poetry and sacred hymns, and in some sources is also associated with sacred dance and contemplative thought. She is a daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne, sharing in the divine inspiration attributed to the Muses.
