Poliuretánlakkot

Poliuretánlakkot, often referred to as polyurethane varnish or simply polyurethane, is a protective and decorative coating widely used on various surfaces, most notably wood. It is a polymer-based finish that dries to form a hard, durable film. The primary component is a prepolymer formed from a polyol and an isocyanate, which then reacts with moisture or another component to cure.

There are two main types of polyurethane finishes: oil-based and water-based. Oil-based polyurethanes typically offer greater durability and a warmer amber tone, but they have stronger odors, longer drying times, and require mineral spirits for cleanup. Water-based polyurethanes are generally lower in odor, dry faster, and are easier to clean up with soap and water. However, they may not provide the same level of hardness or depth of color as oil-based versions.

Polyurethane coatings are valued for their excellent resistance to abrasion, chemicals, heat, and moisture, making them suitable for high-traffic areas like floors, tabletops, and furniture. They are applied in thin coats, typically with a brush, roller, or spray gun. The number of coats required depends on the desired level of protection and the specific product used. Proper surface preparation, including cleaning and sometimes sanding, is crucial for achieving optimal adhesion and a smooth finish.
