Poliertest

Poliertest is a term used in German-language technical literature to describe procedures that assess the quality of a surface finish produced by polishing. It encompasses both qualitative and quantitative tests aimed at determining how well a surface has been polished, including uniformity, absence of visible defects, and conformity to specifications. Poliertest is applied across industries such as automotive, optics, jewelry, metalworking, ceramics, and semiconductor manufacturing.

Common methods include visual inspection to detect scratches, swirl marks, pits, and streaks; gloss measurement with a glossmeter at standard angles (for example 20° and 60°), with results reported in gloss units; and surface roughness measurements using profilometry to obtain parameters such as Ra and Rz. Microscopic examination can reveal micro-scratches and coating integrity, while mechanical tests like scratch resistance or adhesion tests gauge the durability of the polished layer. In some processes, end-of-line poliertest may also incorporate wear or abrasion tests to simulate service conditions.

Procedure generally involves preparing representative samples, applying standardized polishing sequences, and conducting measurements under controlled conditions (surface cleanliness, temperature, measurement geometry). Acceptance criteria are defined by product specifications or industry standards, and test results support process control, quality assurance, and traceability. The practice of poliertest is often aligned with standards for surface roughness and gloss measurement, such as ISO 4287 for roughness and ISO 2813 for paints and varnishes, while other standards may apply to specific materials or applications. The term is context-dependent, serving as a generic label for polishing-quality assessment in manufacturing and research.
