Plaanimist

Plaanimist is a term used for adherents of plaanimism, a niche belief system that posits planes—geometric planes, map coordinates, and other planar domains—have consciousness and intentional agency. Practitioners describe planes as having will, memory, and the capacity to influence events in the material world, particularly where different planes intersect or interact. Plaanimism regards reality as stratified into distinct planes whose relationships can be read, negotiated, and honored through ritual.

The term blends "plane" with "animism" and is primarily encountered in fringe philosophy, speculative fiction, and certain artistic communities. It does not form a widely established religion or academic doctrine and lacks centralized authority or canonical texts. Some plaanimists draw on phenomenology, cartography, and geomancy to interpret how plane boundaries shape perception and fate.

Beliefs commonly center on three ideas: first, that planes exist ontologically with a degree of subjectivity; second, that humans can access or communicate with plane intelligences through practices such as meditative focus on intersections (where gridlines, contours, or lines of latitude and longitude meet); and third, that ethical conduct includes honoring the integrity of planes by avoiding needless disruption of their boundaries. Practices may involve map-based rituals, visualization of planar fields, and collaborative projects that "align" personal intention with larger planar patterns.

In practice, plaanimism has appeared mainly as a philosophical or artistic framework rather than a formal movement. Critics describe it as a speculative or metaphorical tool for thinking about space, place, and perception rather than a testable belief system.
