Pixars

Pixars is an informal term used to refer to Pixar Animation Studios and its productions. The official name remains Pixar Animation Studios, commonly shortened to Pixar. The plural form Pixars is not used in official contexts but may appear in casual writing to refer to multiple Pixar films or projects.

Pixar originated as part of the Graphics Group within Lucasfilm's computer division. In 1986, Steve Jobs financed and spun it off as an independent company named Pixar, with its headquarters in Emeryville, California. The studio released its first feature-length film, Toy Story, in 1995, the first fully computer-animated feature film. Since then Pixar has produced a string of critically acclaimed and commercially successful films, including A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, WALL-E, Up, Coco, Inside Out, Turning Red, and Elemental. In 2006, The Walt Disney Company acquired Pixar, making it a subsidiary of Disney and integrating its animation pipeline with Disney Animation Studios.

In addition to feature films, Pixar has produced numerous short films, including Luxo Jr. (1986) and Tin Toy (1988), both influential in the development of computer animation. The studio has developed proprietary tools and pipelines, notably the RenderMan rendering software, which has been widely used in the industry. Pixar has earned numerous Academy Awards for animated features, short films, and technical achievements, and remains a leading center of innovation in animated storytelling.
