Pitvarba

Pitvarba is a town and municipality in the fictional region of Nordmark within the country of Eldara. It sits in a temperate river valley and serves as an administrative and cultural center for nearby villages. The name Pitvarba is believed to derive from an old local dialect, combining elements meaning “river bend” and “settlement.”

Geographically, Pitvarba covers about 26 square kilometers. The landscape is a mix of farmlands, deciduous forest, and a meandering river that historically supplied mills and trades. The climate is temperate with warm summers and cool winters, supporting both agriculture and outdoor recreation.

Pitvarba originated in the 12th century as a market town along a river corridor. It grew under regional lords, developed a compact medieval core, and survived several conflicts before modern reforms in the 19th century. In the 20th century, it expanded with small industries and improved transport links.

Economy centers on agriculture—wheat, dairy, and fruit—alongside small-scale manufacturing and local services. Tourism focuses on the historic town center, riverside trails, and cultural events. The population, estimated at around 9,500, is predominantly Pitvarbian-speaking with a minority of Eldaran speakers.

Key landmarks include the 16th-century Old Town Hall, St. Anton’s Church, and a Renaissance-era bridge. The town hosts the annual Pitvarba Market Festival in late summer, featuring crafts, food stalls, and regional music. Transportation links include a regional railway line, a network of national roads, and a small municipal airport located nearby.
