Pilotierenden is the present participle of the German verb pilotieren. A pilot phase is typically time-bounded and defined by explicit objectives and measurable criteria.

Process and practice usually involve several steps: defining scope and success criteria; selecting the pilot environment or user group; designing data collection and monitoring; executing the pilot; analyzing results; and deciding whether to scale up, adjust, or terminate the initiative. Successful pilotierungen help reduce risk, clarify requirements, and improve stakeholder buy-in for the eventual rollout.
