Pilgerwegen
Pilgerwegen are long-distance routes intended for travelers who undertake the journey for religious, spiritual, or cultural reasons. While their roots lie in medieval Europe, many routes have been revived in modern times as both heritage paths and opportunities for personal reflection. In German-speaking areas, the term is closely tied to the network of Jakobswege (Ways of St. James) that lead toward Santiago de Compostela, as well as to other regional pilgrimage routes across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In addition, elements of historic routes such as the Via Francigena have inspired contemporary sections and cross-border connections.
