Perustuvet

Perustuvet, also known as the European perch, is a species of freshwater fish belonging to the family Percidae. It is native to the rivers and lakes of Europe, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. The fish is characterized by its elongated body, which can reach lengths of up to 40 centimeters, and its distinctive dark spots on a light background, which are particularly visible on the sides of its body.

Perustuvet is a bottom-dwelling species, preferring clear, well-oxygenated waters with a substrate of sand, gravel, or mud. It feeds primarily on aquatic insects and other small invertebrates, using its sharp teeth to grasp and consume its prey. The fish is known for its aggressive behavior, particularly during the breeding season, when males become territorial and may engage in fights with other males.

Perustuvet is an important species in the ecosystems of its native waters, serving as a food source for larger predators such as pike and trout. However, its populations have declined in recent decades due to factors such as habitat loss, pollution, and overfishing. Conservation efforts are underway to protect and restore populations of this species, which is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN Red List.
