Peopledependent is a term used to describe processes, systems, or organizations that rely primarily on human involvement for execution, oversight, or decision making, rather than being fully automated. It highlights the role of people in performing tasks, interpreting information, and adapting to new circumstances. The term is not a formal standard in many disciplines, but is employed to contrast human-centered workflows with machine-led or autonomous alternatives.

Typical domains include service delivery, operations management, healthcare workflows, and knowledge work, where exceptions, empathy, or nuanced judgment are essential. Examples include manual data entry, exception handling in customer service, manual QA testing, and clinical or legal decision processes that require professional judgment.

Key characteristics are reliance on workforce size and skill, scheduling and training needs, and exposure to fatigue and turnover. While such systems can be resilient to certain disruptions and enable flexible responses, they are vulnerable to bottlenecks, higher labor costs, and inconsistent results compared to automated alternatives.
