Pelara is a fictional coastal nation and archipelago used in world-building and speculative fiction. It is imagined as a temperate to subtropical maritime culture with many islands, diverse habitats, and a long history of seafaring.

Geography and environment: Pelara covers about 18,000 square kilometers and comprises twelve inhabited islands and several islets. The capital, Vastoria, sits on the central island. Major ports include Port Nyra and Kestrel Bay. The terrain ranges from volcanic highlands to mangrove deltas, with a climate moderated by sea winds and rich reef systems offshore.

History: Early settlements date to the late Bronze Age, followed by regional kingdoms and extensive trade networks. In the 17th–18th centuries Pelara interacted with continental powers, becoming an autonomous realm in the 19th century. A constitutional government was established in the mid-20th century, with gradual modernization and preservation of artisanal crafts.

Government: Pelara is a constitutional republic with a unicameral Assembly elected by proportional representation. The president acts as head of state, and a prime minister leads the government. The judiciary is independent, and civil liberties are guaranteed by the constitution.

Economy and demographics: The population is around 3.1 million. Official language is Pelaran; English is common in business and education. The economy centers on fishing, tourism, shipbuilding, and renewable energy, especially offshore wind and tidal projects. The pel is the currency.

Culture: Maritime heritage shapes Pelaran cuisine, crafts, and festivals. Common dishes feature seafood, coconuts, and root vegetables. Notable events include the Tide Festival and Lantern Night, which celebrate navigation, harvest, and community.
