Peesrupturen

Peesrupturen, also known as tendon ruptures, are injuries where a tendon completely tears. Tendons are strong, fibrous cords of tissue that connect muscles to bones. When a tendon ruptures, the muscle can no longer pull on the bone, leading to a loss of movement and function in the affected limb. These injuries can occur suddenly, often during strenuous activity or from a direct blow, or they can develop over time due to repetitive stress and wear and tear on the tendon. Factors such as age, certain medical conditions like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis, and the use of some medications, particularly corticosteroids and fluoroquinolone antibiotics, can increase the risk of a tendon rupture.

Common sites for peesrupturen include the Achilles tendon in the ankle, the rotator cuff tendons in the shoulder, and the patellar tendon in the knee. Symptoms typically include sudden, sharp pain at the site of the rupture, swelling, bruising, and an inability to move the affected joint or limb. A visible gap or indentation may also be present where the tendon has torn. Diagnosis is usually made based on a physical examination and medical history, often supplemented by imaging tests such as ultrasound or MRI to confirm the extent of the tear.

Treatment for a peesruptuur depends on the specific tendon involved, the severity of the tear, and the individual's overall health. It can range from conservative management with rest, ice, compression, elevation (RICE), and physical therapy for partial tears, to surgical repair for complete ruptures. Surgery aims to reattach the torn ends of the tendon. Following treatment, rehabilitation through physical therapy is crucial to regain strength, flexibility, and function.
