PaperMC

PaperMC, commonly referred to as Paper, is an open-source high-performance fork of the Minecraft server software Spigot. It is designed to improve server performance, stability, and configurability while remaining compatible with the Bukkit/Spigot plugin ecosystem. Paper introduces numerous optimizations, bug fixes, and new server-side features intended to reduce tick lag and increase throughput on busy or large servers.

Paper originated as a community-driven fork of Spigot to address performance and reliability concerns observed in earlier releases. It is maintained by the PaperMC project with contributions from volunteers, and releases are aligned with each Minecraft version. The project is publicly hosted and provides builds intended for production servers running on various operating systems.

Key features include optimizations such as improved tick timing, asynchronous chunk loading, and enhanced entity processing, along with expanded server configuration options and debugging tools. Paper also offers additional configuration files and tuning knobs to help administrators fine-tune performance, memory usage, and server behavior. In addition to performance gains, it provides bug fixes backported from newer Minecraft versions and more robust server internals handling.

Compatibility and usage: Paper builds are designed to be compatible with most Bukkit and Spigot plugins, allowing administrators to migrate from Spigot without major plugin changes. Some plugins that rely on internal server behavior or timing details may require updates. To use Paper, administrators download the appropriate Paper server jar for their Minecraft version, replace the existing server jar, and run it with Java. Configuration is managed via paper.yml, spigot.yml, and bukkit.yml, along with standard plugin management practices.
