Painevalussa

Painevalussa, also known as pressure casting, is a metal casting process in which molten metal is forced into a mold cavity under high pressure. It is typically used to produce large volumes of parts with tight tolerances and good surface finish.

Process overview: The mold, or die, is closed and clamped under high force. Molten metal is melted in a furnace and delivered to an injection system. The metal is injected into the die at high pressure, allowing fast filling and controlled solidification. After the metal solidifies, the die opens and the part is ejected. The cycle then repeats. Painevalussa machines are broadly categorized into hot-chamber and cold-chamber types. Hot-chamber machines draw molten metal from a pot into the injection cylinder and are common for low-melting-point metals; cold-chamber machines pour molten metal into the injection chamber from a separate furnace, suitable for higher-melting-point alloys.

Materials and alloys: Common painevalussa alloys include zinc-based alloys (such as Zamak), aluminum-based alloys, and magnesium alloys. Copper alloys are used in some applications but require more robust tooling and casting conditions. Typical painevalussa parts are small to medium sized with relatively thin walls.

Advantages and design considerations: Painevalussa offers high production rates, excellent dimensional accuracy, good repeatability, and the ability to produce complex geometries with smooth surface finishes. Design considerations include gate placement, draft angles, uniform wall thickness, and avoidance of porosity. Tooling costs are high, making painevalussa most economical for high-volume production; there are also limitations on part size and the range of alloys that can be used.

Applications: Painevalussa is widely used for automotive components, housings and covers, electrical enclosures, hardware fittings, and consumer electronics casings.
