Painetekniikassa

Painetekniikassa, meaning "pressure technology" or "pneumatics" in English, refers to the field of engineering and technology that deals with the use of compressed air or gases to perform mechanical work. It is a sub-discipline of fluid power, alongside hydraulics which uses liquids. The fundamental principle involves storing energy in a compressed gas and then releasing it in a controlled manner to drive actuators, such as cylinders or motors.

Key components in a typical pneumatic system include a compressor to generate the compressed air, a receiver tank to store it, filters to remove contaminants, regulators to control pressure, and valves to direct the flow of air. Actuators, like pneumatic cylinders, convert the pressure energy into linear motion, while pneumatic motors produce rotational motion. Pneumatic systems are favored for their simplicity, relatively low cost, cleanliness, and ability to operate in hazardous environments due to the inert nature of air. They are commonly found in industrial automation, manufacturing, automotive repair, and even in medical devices like dental drills.
