PRKleikkaus
PRKleikkaus, commonly known as photorefractive keratectomy, is a type of refractive surgery used to correct vision problems such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. The procedure involves reshaping the cornea, the clear front layer of the eye, to improve the way it focuses light onto the retina. Unlike more modern techniques like LASIK, PRK does not require the creation of a corneal flap, as the outer layer of the cornea, called the epithelium, is temporarily removed before the laser treatment.
The surgery is performed under local anesthesia, typically using eye drops, and is usually an outpatient procedure,
PRKleikkaus is generally recommended for patients with mild to moderate refractive errors, thin corneas, or those
The procedure has evolved over time, and while it remains an effective option, newer techniques like SMILE
