PDIP
PDIP stands for Plastic Dual In-Line Package, a plastic-encapsulated form of the dual-in-line package used for through-hole integrated circuits. In a PDIP, the silicon die is enclosed in a rectangular plastic body with two parallel rows of metal leads that extend from the sides. Lead counts range from small (around eight pins) to high (forty pins or more), and PDIPs are produced in multiple body widths to suit different device densities. The plastic molding provides mechanical protection, while the through-hole pins allow insertion into sockets or printed circuit boards and reliable soldering.
