PDIP

PDIP stands for Plastic Dual In-Line Package, a plastic-encapsulated form of the dual-in-line package used for through-hole integrated circuits. In a PDIP, the silicon die is enclosed in a rectangular plastic body with two parallel rows of metal leads that extend from the sides. Lead counts range from small (around eight pins) to high (forty pins or more), and PDIPs are produced in multiple body widths to suit different device densities. The plastic molding provides mechanical protection, while the through-hole pins allow insertion into sockets or printed circuit boards and reliable soldering.

PDIPs are widely used in consumer electronics, development kits, and legacy circuitry because they are inexpensive, easy to handle, and compatible with manual soldering and automatic wave soldering. They are well suited for prototyping and for devices where through-hole assembly is preferred, but they occupy more board space than most surface-mount packages and are not common in high-density designs.

PDIP can also refer to Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan, a major Indonesian political party founded in 1999. In electronics contexts, PDIP almost always means Plastic Dual In-Line Package; in political contexts, it refers to the party.
