Ozenuma

Ozenuma is a fictional town and nature reserve in the eastern lowlands of Veridia, a continental nation in the northern hemisphere. The name derives from the Veridian language and roughly translates to layered waters. The settlement lies along the Ozenuma River and the adjacent wetlands, collectively the Ozenuma Wetlands, a protected area.

The region consists of flat floodplains with reed beds and groves of alder and willow. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters; annual rainfall averages 1,100 millimeters. The wetlands support biodiversity and provide flood control.

Settlement dates to the 13th century; the municipality formed in the 16th. The wetlands were designated protected in 1982, encouraging ecotourism.

The economy centers on sustainable farming, small-scale forestry, and ecotourism. The Visitors Center hosts guided walks and birdwatching tours; local producers supply nearby markets.

As of 2020, about 2,500 residents lived there. The town is governed by a seven-member council and a mayor elected for four-year terms. It belongs to Veridia’s Ljora District.

An annual Water Festival in spring features traditional music and boats. Education includes a public primary school; secondary schooling is in a neighboring town. Signage uses Veridian and a local dialect.

Roads connect to regional highways; there is no railway. The nearest international airport is in the capital, about 90 kilometers away. A limited bus network serves surrounding villages.

Conservation efforts focus on restoration and invasive species management to support resilience.
