The concept encompasses the entire arc from recognizing a need to the outcome of the purchase and the post-purchase evaluation. In consumer behavior research, ostuotsused are used to understand why consumers choose certain brands, how much effort they invest in information gathering, and how satisfaction is formed.

The typical framework for ostuotsused outlines a sequence of stages: need recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase decision, and post-purchase behavior. While traditional models describe a linear path, real-world decision making often involves simultaneous information processing, social influence, digital channels, and a focus on value, risk, and convenience.
