Organisationsmodeller

Organisationsmodeller, or organizational modelling, refers to methods and tools used to describe, analyze, and design the structure and behavior of organizations. The primary goal is to make visible the relationships between strategy, processes, people, information, and technology, to support decision making and change initiatives.

Models typically capture organizational structure (units, roles, reporting lines), governance and decision rights, process flows and value creation, resource distribution, and information needs. They may also include capability maps, risk and compliance constraints, and cultural or social dimensions that influence performance.

Common modelling approaches and notations used in organisationsmodeller include org charts, responsibility assignments such as RACI or RAPID, process models (BPMN, IDEF0), workflow diagrams, and enterprise architecture languages such as ArchiMate. In practice, organisationsmodeller blends structural representations with process and data models to create an integrated view of how the organization operates.

Applications include design of new organizations, mergers and reorganizations, capacity planning, IT and service delivery alignment, and change management. They are used by management consultants, enterprise architects, and operations analysts to test scenarios, estimate impacts, and communicate complex designs to stakeholders.

Key challenges include keeping models up to date in dynamic environments, ensuring stakeholder agreement on scope and terminology, and balancing model detail with usability. Effective use requires governance, data quality, and a clear purpose for each model.
