Ordreplukking

Ordreplukking, or order picking, is the operational process in warehouses and distribution centers where items are retrieved from storage to fulfill customer orders. The goal is to assemble the correct items in the right quantities as efficiently and accurately as possible, often while minimizing travel distances and handling.

The typical workflow begins with receiving an order or batch of orders and generating a pick list. Warehouse staff locate and retrieve the requested SKUs, verify items and quantities, and move them to packing and labeling areas. The picked items are then packed, sealed, and prepared for shipping, with inventory records updated to reflect the removal from stock. Modern systems often automate or guide these steps through a Warehouse Management System (WMS), barcode scanning, and real-time inventory updates.

Common picking strategies include single-order picking (one order handled at a time), batch picking (several orders picked concurrently from the same area), zone picking (staff responsible for specific zones), and wave picking (picking aligned with shipment schedules). The choice depends on order characteristics, warehouse layout, and throughput targets. Technologies such as handheld scanners, voice-directed picking, pick-to-light, and RFID guidance are used to improve accuracy and speed. Automation options include automated storage and retrieval systems and robotic pickers in some facilities.
