Onslagpatronen

Onslagpatronen, often translated as "blank cartridges" or "firing blanks," are ammunition designed to produce a loud noise and a visible flash without projecting a projectile. They are essentially inert cartridges that contain gunpowder but lack a bullet or other solid payload. The primary purpose of onslagpatronen is to simulate the sound and visual effect of gunfire, making them useful in a variety of contexts.

These cartridges are commonly employed in film and theater productions to create realistic battle scenes or dramatic moments involving firearms. They are also used in military and police training exercises to provide a sensory stimulus without the inherent dangers of live ammunition. In some ceremonial occasions, such as military funerals or parades, onslagpatronen are used to mark significant events with a salute.

The design of an onslagpatroon typically involves a casing, a primer, and gunpowder. When fired, the primer ignites the gunpowder, creating a rapid expansion of gases. This pressure forces open a crimped or sealed end of the cartridge, releasing the gases and producing the characteristic bang and flash. While onslagpatronen do not project a projectile, the muzzle blast can still be forceful and potentially hazardous at very close range, and it is important to treat them with the same caution as live ammunition.
