The origin of this method can be traced to the Square Foot Gardening system developed by Mel Bartholomew, though the concept of organized planting beds is much older. The idea is to break down a larger garden into manageable sections, typically measuring one foot by one foot. Within each square, a specific number of plants are sown, determined by their mature size. This density ensures that the available space is used efficiently, maximizing yield from a small area.
