Névszerverhamisítás, commonly known in English as DNS spoofing or DNS cache poisoning, is a type of cyberattack where a malicious actor introduces falsified data into a Domain Name System (DNS) resolver's cache. This manipulation causes the DNS resolver to return an incorrect IP address for a requested domain name, effectively redirecting users to a malicious website instead of the intended one.

The goal of névszerverhamisítás is typically to steal sensitive information, such as login credentials or financial data, by tricking users into visiting a fake website that mimics a legitimate one. It can also be used to distribute malware or launch denial-of-service attacks. Attackers exploit vulnerabilities in DNS servers or intercept DNS queries to inject their own responses.

Once a DNS resolver's cache is poisoned, all users who rely on that resolver for name resolution will be affected. They will unknowingly be directed to the attacker's chosen IP address. This can have widespread consequences, especially if a popular or widely used DNS resolver is targeted.

DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) is a crucial security protocol that cryptographically signs DNS data, allowing resolvers to verify the authenticity and integrity of the information they receive.
