Nostotese is a constructed language designed for speculative fiction and linguistic exploration. It features an agglutinative morphology, a largely fixed root-and-affix system, and a flexible word order driven by discourse. The language was developed in online conlang communities in the late 20th century and has since appeared in fan fiction and language-learning guides.

Phonology and script: Nostotese has five vowels /a e i o u/ and a consonant inventory including /p t k m n s l r w j/. Syllable structure is typically (C)(C)V(C). Stress is usually on the penultimate syllable. The phonology favors simple, phonotactically permissive combinations and allows gemination for emphasis. It is usually written with a Latin-based alphabet augmented by diacritics; a compact orthography is commonly used in teaching materials, while some texts experiment with a secondary script for stylistic purposes.

Morphology and syntax: Nostotese employs agglutination. Nouns form plurals with the suffix -en and use postpositions to indicate case and spatial relations, rather than inflecting for case. Adjectives typically follow nouns. Verbs carry tense, aspect, and mood through suffixal affixes attached to a verb root; person agreement is not expressed on the verb, but may appear via independent pronouns. The basic sentence order is SVO, though word order can shift to emphasize topic or focus.

Lexicon and learning: The core lexicon is designed to be culturally evocative and minimal for ease of learning; speakers often coin additional roots from existing stems. Pedagogical resources include bilingual glossaries, example texts, and community-led tutorials that illustrate common sentence patterns and vocabulary growth.

Usage and status: Nostotese remains a constructed language with no official native-speaking community. It is taught and distributed by hobbyists through online guides, dictionaries, and short texts, and is primarily used for creative writing, role-playing, and linguistic experimentation.
