Nordwald, meaning “northern forest” in German, refers to a geographic region and natural landscape designated by the northern woodlands of a larger central European upland. In Austria, the term is most often used to describe the forested plateau and rolling hills located in the northern part of the Waldviertel region of Lower Austria, near the border with the Czech Republic.
