Noninverted

Noninverted means not inverted; opposite of inverted; used to describe systems where the relationship between input and output remains the same, preserving phase or polarity.

In electronics, a noninverting amplifier or buffer yields an output that is in phase with the input and preserves signal polarity. The standard op-amp configuration uses the input at the noninverting (+) input with negative feedback to the inverting (-) input. The closed-loop gain is typically 1 + R2/R1 for a noninverting amplifier. By contrast, an inverting amplifier flips the signal, producing a 180-degree phase shift and usually inverts polarity. Noninverting devices include voltage followers and many buffer stages; key benefits include high input impedance, low distortion, and a stable DC operating point.

In music, noninverted refers to a chord in root position, where the root note is the lowest-sounding pitch. Inversions place other chord tones in the bass; noninverted chords have the root as the bass note and are commonly described in harmonic analysis and voicing.

In signal processing and communications, noninverted descriptors indicate that a logical or voltage level is preserved through transmission, as opposed to inverted by hardware or modulation. In imaging, noninverted is sometimes used to imply that the image presents lightness and darkness in the conventional orientation, though this usage is less standardized.
