Nkanal

Nkanal is a fictional town and municipality in the river valley of Veridia, serving as the administrative center of Veridia's North District. It lies along the Veria River, about 120 kilometers north of the national capital. The terrain is low-lying with wetlands on the outskirts, and the climate is tropical savanna with a distinct wet season from May to October.

Population is about 58,000. The town is ethnically diverse, with Veridian as the common language and several minority languages including Nkanali. The economy combines agriculture (cassava, maize), fishing, local manufacturing, and services tied to the river port.

Governance is a mayor-council system; the municipal council comprises fifteen members. The local government focuses on market regulation, sanitation, and infrastructure maintenance. Transportation includes a network of regional roads, a small river port for freight, and a historic railway spur linking to larger lines.

History: Nkanal was founded in the early 18th century as a river trading post and grew through commerce and agriculture. A colonial fort dating from the 1860s survives as a cultural landmark.

Education and culture: the town hosts several primary and secondary schools and the Veridian Technical Institute. Weekly markets and an annual harvest festival in October are key cultural events. Notable sites include the old Fort Veria, the riverside market, and a botanical garden.
