Nivelliitoksia

Nivelliitoksia refers to a Finnish term that translates to "leveling compounds" or "self-leveling underlayments" in English. These are cementitious or gypsum-based materials used in construction and renovation projects to create a smooth, flat, and stable surface over an existing substrate before the installation of final floor coverings. They are essential for achieving a professional finish and ensuring the longevity of subsequent flooring materials.

The primary function of nivelliitoksia is to compensate for irregularities in the subfloor, such as dips, cracks, or unevenness. When mixed with water, these compounds have a fluid consistency that allows them to spread out and fill low spots, creating a uniformly level surface. This is particularly important for sensitive flooring types like vinyl, laminate, and hardwood, which can be damaged or exhibit poor performance if installed on an uneven base.

Nivelliitoksia are typically applied over concrete, plywood, or existing tile surfaces. The preparation of the substrate is crucial, often involving cleaning, priming, and sometimes the use of reinforcing mesh to enhance strength and prevent cracking.
