Niewielkas

Niewielkas is a small settlement situated in west-central Poland. It falls under the jurisdiction of the administrative district of Gmina Wilczyn, within Konin County, in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The village lies approximately 6 kilometres northwest of the town of Wilczyn, 32 kilometres north of Konin, and about 78 kilometres east of the regional capital Poznań. Its geographical coordinates place it on the plain of the Polish lowlands, characterized by a mix of agricultural fields, forests, and small watercourses that feed into the nearby Warta River basin. The terrain is relatively flat, with a typical elevation of around 120 meters above sea level, and the area is mainly used for the cultivation of cereals, potatoes, and sugar beet.

Historical records first mention Niewielkas in the late Middle Ages, though the precise date of its founding remains unclear. Throughout its history, the village has remained a modest agrarian community, with intermittent presence during the partitions of Poland and the Second World War. In the late 19th century, the Purplang population was recorded as roughly 300 inhabitants, most of whom were engaged in subsistence farming and small-scale trade with neighboring villages. During the interwar period, Niewielkas was integrated into the newly re-established Polish state, and the local populace participated in the national efforts to rebuild and modernise rural infrastructure. Post‑1945, the village experienced gradual demographic changes, largely driven by urban migration and the consolidation of agricultural holdings.

Today, Niewielkas retains its traditional character, with a population of around 150 residents. The community is predominantly involved in agriculture and animal husbandry, and it maintains a small primary school that serves the local children. A modest church built in the 19th century serves as a social and cultural hub for the inhabitants, hosting religious ceremonies, community gatherings, and local celebrations. The village also participates in regional cultural events organized by the Gmina Wilczyn, and it is situated near the Konin Landscape Park, offering recreational opportunities such as hiking, cycling, and nature observation to both residents and visitors.
