Nevarnosti

Nevarnosti, in Slovenian meaning hazards or dangers, refer to conditions or agents with the potential to cause harm to people, property, or the environment. They can occur in workplaces, homes, public spaces, and in natural or technological systems. Understanding nevarnosti involves identifying what could go wrong and how severe the outcome could be, as well as how likely it is to occur.

Hazards are typically categorized by the type of harm they may cause. Physical hazards include noise, heat, cold, vibration, and radiation. Chemical hazards involve toxic, flammable, or corrosive substances. Biological hazards cover bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other living agents. Ergonomic hazards arise from poorly designed tasks or equipment, leading to musculoskeletal disorders. Psychosocial hazards encompass stress, harassment, fatigue, and other work organization factors. Additional categories include electrical, mechanical, and structural hazards, as well as natural hazards such as floods or earthquakes.

Risk assessment is a structured process used to evaluate nevarnosti. It usually consists of hazard identification, risk estimation (likelihood times consequence), and risk evaluation to determine whether controls are needed. When controls are required, a hierarchy of measures is typically applied: eliminate the hazard if possible; substitute with a less dangerous option; implement engineering controls; use administrative controls and safe work practices; and provide personal protective equipment when necessary.

Prevention and management involve training, clear procedures, safety signage, regular inspections, and incident reporting and investigation. These activities support a culture of safety and continuous improvement. In many jurisdictions, hazard identification and risk mitigation are integral to occupational and public safety regulations, product stewardship, and environmental protection.
