Neuniformnosti

Neuniformnosti, or nonuniformities, refer to deviations from uniformity in a system, field, or distribution. They manifest as spatial or temporal variations in properties such as composition, density, temperature, stress, or probability density. Nonuniformities can arise from intrinsic heterogeneity, external influences, or processes that produce gradients.

In materials science and engineering, nonuniformities describe irregularities in microstructure or composition, such as uneven grain sizes, porosity, impurities, or phase distribution. They influence mechanical properties, transport, diffusion, and failure patterns, and are often addressed or controlled through processing steps like homogenization, annealing, or controlled solidification.

In statistics and probability, nonuniformity refers to distributions that are not uniform over a domain, leading to biased estimations or uneven sampling. Nonuniformities can be intentional, as in weighted sampling, or inherent to the population. Analytical tools include histograms, density estimation, goodness-of-fit tests, and measures of heterogeneity.

In physics and related fields, nonuniformities describe spatial variations of fields or forces, such as nonuniform magnetic, electric, or gravitational fields. Density fluctuations in cosmology and in geophysical contexts illustrate nonuniformities with significant consequences for structure formation and material behavior.

Characterization and management of nonuniformities rely on imaging, spectroscopy, tomography, or scans to map variation. Quantitative measures such as variance, standard deviation, coefficient of variation, or entropy assess the degree of nonuniformity. Approaches to reduce unwanted nonuniformity include processing control, material mixing, zoning, or gradient-engineered designs.
