NetworktoVehicle, often abbreviated as N2V, refers to the communication infrastructure and protocols that enable vehicles to exchange data with external networks. This includes not only wireless networks like cellular or Wi-Fi but also vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication systems. The primary goal of N2V is to enhance road safety, improve traffic efficiency, and enable new mobility services.

The concept of N2V is a cornerstone of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). By allowing vehicles to communicate with each other and with roadside units (RSUs) such as traffic lights and sensors, N2V can facilitate applications like collision avoidance, traffic congestion alerts, and dynamic route optimization. Furthermore, N2V enables vehicles to connect to cloud-based services for infotainment, over-the-air software updates, and remote diagnostics.

Key technologies underpinning N2V include Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) and cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) standards. DSRC, a Wi-Fi based technology, has been a focus for V2V and V2I communication. C-V2X, on the other hand, leverages LTE or 5G cellular networks, offering advantages in terms of range, reliability, and integration with existing mobile infrastructure. The development and deployment of N2V are critical for the advancement of autonomous driving technologies and the creation of smart cities.
