Netwerking

Netwerking is the practice of establishing and maintaining professional relationships to share information, resources, and opportunities. In Dutch usage, netwerking commonly refers to the deliberate creation of professional networks, but in technical contexts the term may be used to describe computer networking when translated from English.

The concept exists in two main domains: interpersonal networking and computer networking. In interpersonal netwerking, individuals seek to build a network of contacts who can provide knowledge, referrals, collaboration, or career advancement. Activities include attending conferences, industry meetups, alumni events, and online networking on professional platforms. Successful netwerking typically involves clear goals, active listening, reciprocity, follow-up, and ethical behavior, with attention to privacy and consent. Networks can be dense or sparse, formal or informal, and they evolve with time and changes in roles.

In computer contexts, netwerking refers to the design and operation of networks that connect devices to share data and resources. This includes local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), the Internet, and related protocols such as TCP/IP. Core concerns are reliability, performance, security, scalability, and standardization. Netwerking enables services such as file sharing, email, web access, and distributed computing.
