Netton

Netton is a small town and civil parish in the fictional county of Northmoor, in the country of Eldoria. It lies on the banks of the Netton River and forms a rural service center for surrounding farmland. The population is approximately 7,400 residents. The town covers about 12 square kilometers and experiences a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and warm summers.

Netton is first mentioned in medieval records dating from the 12th century, when a weekly market and a river crossing anchored the settlement. The coming of the railway in the 19th century spurred growth, and by the early 20th century Netton had developed a small manufacturing and milling sector. The late 20th century saw gradual diversification into services and light industry, while much of the countryside around Netton remains active agricultural land.

Today's economy centers on agriculture, food processing, logistics, and local services. Netton hosts an industrial park that houses several small manufacturers, a wholesale distribution center, and workshops for craftspeople. The town benefits from proximity to a regional road network and a rail freight link that serves nearby logistics facilities.

Most residents identify as the Eldorian majority; the age structure is typical of rural towns, with about 20 percent under 18 and 18 percent over 65.

Netton provides two primary schools and a secondary comprehensive. The Netton Library serves as a community hub. Cultural life centers on Market Square, the parish church of St. Mary, and annual events such as Netton Days and a summer farmers' market.

Administratively, Netton is part of Northmoor District Council and has a parish council. Public transport is provided by regular bus services linking Netton with nearby towns; the railway station previously serving Netton was closed in the mid-20th century, though freight services continue on the nearby line.
