Nelisylinterisissä

Nelisylinterisissä refers to a four-cylinder engine configuration, commonly found in automobiles and motorcycles. This design utilizes four cylinders arranged in a line, hence the term "inline-four" or "nelisylinterinen rivimoottori" in Finnish. The cylinders are typically positioned one after another, with their crankshafts rotating in unison.

The inline-four engine is popular due to its balanced power delivery and relatively simple construction. This simplicity contributes to lower manufacturing costs and easier maintenance compared to more complex engine designs. The inherent smoothness of a four-cylinder engine is also a significant advantage, especially in smaller vehicles where vibration can be a concern.

However, inline-four engines can have limitations in terms of power output compared to engines with more cylinders, such as V6 or V8 configurations. For higher performance applications, engineers often resort to alternative designs or employ forced induction methods like turbocharging or supercharging to increase power.
