Navara

Navara is a mid-size pickup truck produced by Nissan. It is marketed in many regions under the Navara name and, in North America, as the Frontier. The model line forms part of Nissan’s broader pickup family and has evolved through several generations to balance work duties with everyday use.

The first generation, known as the D22, appeared in the late 1990s and featured a ladder-frame chassis with body styles including king cab and crew cab. The second generation, the D40, arrived in the mid-2000s and offered improved engines, payload, and off-road capability, along with a more refined interior. The third generation, the NP300 Navara, launched in the mid-2010s and remains in production, delivering bolder design, enhanced safety features, and more efficient diesel engines. Market naming varies by region, with Frontier used in some North American markets.

Powertrains have typically been turbocharged diesel engines, paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Four-wheel drive is commonly available, often with electronic controls for traction and terrain management in higher trims. Payload capacity is around 1,000 kilograms, depending on configuration, with towing capability varying by engine and cab style.

Across its generations, the Navara faces competition from other mid-size pickups, including models such as the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200, and Isuzu D-Max. It is generally praised for a comfortable ride and practical versatility, while some iterations have been criticized for interior materials, noise, or the complexity of electronics in higher-spec versions.
