Namaakvorm

Namaakvorm is a Dutch term that translates roughly as “counterfeit form” or “imitation mold.” It denotes a mold, template, or form used to reproduce items, often with the aim of copying a branded or copyrighted product. The term is used in manufacturing, crafts, and law to refer to tools that enable replication rather than the original design itself.

A namaakvorm can be a silicone mold, plaster cast, metal die, or digital 3D model that reproduces the shape of an object, such as handbags, jewelry, electronics housings, or consumer goods. When used without permission, such tools facilitate the production and sale of counterfeit items. Legitimate uses exist as well, for example in restoration, spare-parts production under license, or educational demonstrations.

Legally, creating or distributing counterfeit goods can infringe intellectual property rights and violate consumer-protection rules in the Netherlands and the European Union. Penalties may include civil liability, fines, or imprisonment, and authorities can seize namaakvorms and related equipment.

Detection and enforcement rely on design features, provenance checks, and supply-chain controls, as well as collaboration with platforms and customs authorities to intercept counterfeit molds and products.
