NGOsektorn

NGOsektorn refers to the collective of non-governmental, non-profit organizations that operate independently of the state to pursue public benefit. It includes local charities, faith-based groups, foundations, advocacy organizations, and international NGOs. As part of civil society, the sector mobilizes volunteers, expertise, and resources to address social, environmental, humanitarian, and development challenges.

NGOsektorn engages in service delivery, advocacy and policy influence, research, and watchdog activities. Accountability and reporting standards vary by country and funder.

The sector faces challenges such as funding volatility, regulatory constraints, and legitimacy concerns. Critics point to governance gaps and variable impact. Trends include digital fundraising, data-driven impact assessment, partnerships with government and business, localization of aid, and cross-sector collaboration to leverage resources.

NGOsektorn contributes to democratic participation and public accountability by enabling civil society to voice concerns, monitor power, and address unmet needs that fall outside formal public provision.
