Mysterio

Mysterio is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, the character first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 in June 1964. Mysterio is the alter ego of Quentin Beck, a disillusioned special effects wizard and stuntman who uses his mastery of illusion, robotics, and chemistry to commit crimes and often pit himself against the superhero Spider-Man.

Quentin Beck was a talented but unappreciated special effects technician working in Hollywood. Frustrated by his lack of recognition and financial struggles, he decided to use his skills for villainy. He adopted the persona of Mysterio, a master of illusion and deception. His costume typically includes a fishbowl-like helmet that conceals his face, a cape, and elaborate technological gadgets.

Mysterio's primary methods involve sophisticated illusions, holographic projections, chemical mists that induce hallucinations, and advanced robotics. He rarely engages in direct physical combat, preferring to disorient and manipulate his opponents through psychological warfare and visual trickery. His schemes often involve elaborate deceptions designed to steal valuable items, sow chaos, or simply prove his intellectual superiority over Spider-Man.

Despite his theatrical approach, Mysterio has proven to be a persistent and dangerous foe. His ability to create incredibly convincing illusions makes him a master manipulator, often leading Spider-Man and others to question their own senses and reality. He has been a recurring antagonist in Spider-Man comics and has also appeared in animated series, films, and video games, with actor Jake Gyllenhaal portraying him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: Far From Home.
