Multitenantarkitektur

Multitenantarkitektur, often referred to as multitenancy, is a software architecture where a single instance of an application serves multiple customers or "tenants." Each tenant's data and configurations are isolated and remain invisible to other tenants. This approach is commonly found in Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, where a provider hosts a single application and makes it available to numerous users.

The primary benefit of multitenantarkitektur is cost efficiency. By sharing the underlying infrastructure and application code, providers can reduce hardware, maintenance, and operational costs. This often translates to lower subscription fees for customers. Another advantage is simplified management and upgrades. A single instance means updates and patches are applied once, benefiting all tenants simultaneously. This streamlines the deployment process and ensures all users are on the latest version.

However, multitenancy also presents challenges. Security and data isolation are paramount. Robust measures must be in place to prevent data leakage between tenants. Performance can also be a concern, as a noisy neighbor tenant (one with excessive resource usage) can potentially impact the performance for others. Scalability needs careful consideration to ensure the shared infrastructure can handle the aggregate load of all tenants. Despite these challenges, multitenantarkitektur remains a dominant model for delivering scalable and cost-effective software solutions.
