Mobils is a term used to describe a class of autonomous, modular mobile units designed for on-site tasks in urban and industrial environments. Mobils typically integrate drive systems (wheels, tracks, or legs), an onboard computation unit, sensors (lidar, cameras, radar, ultrasonic), and modular payload interfaces. Power is supplied by rechargeable batteries, often with swappable packs for extended missions. Control software combines autonomous navigation with planning and perception, while connectivity allows remote operator oversight and fleet management. The payload modules enable tasks like grippers for manipulation, sampling arms, or tool interfaces.

Variants range from lightweight inspection models for corridors to mid-weight delivery platforms and heavy-duty service models for construction sites or disaster zones. Common applications include building inspection and maintenance, goods delivery in campuses or hospitals, environmental monitoring, and search-and-rescue support. In many programs, Mobils operate in coordinated fleets to increase redundancy and efficiency, with centralized scheduling and remote supervision.

Deployment has grown in municipal and corporate pilots as part of urban mobility and smart-city initiatives. Challenges include safety and privacy concerns, battery life, maintenance costs, and regulatory compliance.
