Minimiseerimist

Minimiseerimist is the Estonian term for the act or process of minimising, meaning reducing something to its smallest possible value under given constraints. The concept is used across disciplines to obtain more efficient, cost-effective, or optimal outcomes by lowering an objective measure.

In mathematics and operations research, minimiseerimist refers to finding the minimum of a function f(x) over a domain D. This can involve analytical methods, such as calculus and Lagrange multipliers, or numerical techniques like gradient descent, Newton’s method, and interior-point methods. Problems are often formulated as linear programming, convex optimization, or nonlinear optimization, with constraints shaping the feasible region and the optimal solution.

In statistics and machine learning, minimisation corresponds to selecting model parameters that minimize a loss or risk function, such as least squares, cross-entropy, or other discrepancy measures. Regularisation terms (for example, ridge or Lasso) are commonly added to prevent overfitting, and practical solutions may require cross-validation to balance fit quality and model complexity.
