The disorder primarily affects sensory nerves and is distinguished by intermittent, localized, and migratory paresthesias—abnormal tingling, prickling, or numbness—that do not follow a fixed pattern.

Typically, individuals with migreringsstörning experience episodes lasting from seconds to minutes, during which the abnormal sensations move from one area of the body to another. The sensations can occur spontaneously or be triggered by certain stimuli, such as physical activity or stress.
