Microfraktúra

Microfraktúra is a term used to describe a very small, often hairline, fracture in a bone. These types of fractures are typically caused by repetitive stress over time, rather than a single traumatic event. Common activities that can lead to microfractures include long-distance running, jumping, or other high-impact sports, as well as occupational activities involving repetitive motions.

The pain associated with a microfracture may start as a dull ache that intensifies with activity. It can sometimes be difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the pain. Diagnosis often involves a physical examination and may require imaging techniques such as X-rays or MRI scans. In some cases, especially early on, X-rays might not show the microfracture, and an MRI may be necessary for a definitive diagnosis.

Treatment for microfractures usually involves rest, avoiding the activities that caused the injury, and managing pain with over-the-counter pain relievers. In some instances, immobilization with a cast or brace might be recommended. As the bone heals, a gradual return to activity is typically advised, often with the guidance of a physical therapist to ensure proper rehabilitation and prevent re-injury. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are key to a successful recovery and return to normal function.
