Metüülestritest

Metüülestritest, also known as methyltestosterone, is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS). It is a derivative of testosterone, the primary male sex hormone. Methyltestosterone is structurally identical to testosterone except for the addition of a methyl group at the 17th position on the steroid nucleus. This modification increases the oral bioavailability of the compound, making it effective when taken by mouth.

Methyltestosterone has been used medically for various purposes, including the treatment of hypogonadism in men, where the testes do not produce enough testosterone. It has also been prescribed for delayed puberty in boys and for certain types of breast cancer in women, although its use for the latter is less common now. In some regions, it has been used in veterinary medicine.

Like other anabolic steroids, methyltestosterone can cause significant side effects. These can include liver toxicity, cardiovascular issues such as increased cholesterol levels and blood pressure, and hormonal imbalances leading to problems like acne, hair loss, and mood changes. In women, side effects can include virilization, such as deepening of the voice, increased body hair, and menstrual irregularities. Due to its potential for abuse and significant health risks, the medical use of methyltestosterone is carefully regulated, and it is a controlled substance in many countries. Its use in sports for performance enhancement is prohibited by most athletic organizations.
