MazdaSpeed

Mazdaspeed is the performance tuning brand of Mazda. It was originally a standalone company founded in 1989, and Mazda acquired a majority stake in it in 2000, eventually taking full ownership. Mazdaspeed was responsible for developing and producing enhanced versions of Mazda vehicles, offering performance upgrades and special editions.

The Mazdaspeed name was applied to various models across Mazda's lineup, including the Familia (later known as the Mazda3), Protegé, and MX-5 Miata. These models often featured more powerful engines, sport-tuned suspensions, aerodynamic body kits, and distinctive styling cues. For example, the Mazdaspeed3 was a high-performance variant of the Mazda3, known for its turbocharged engine and engaging handling. Similarly, the Mazdaspeed Miata offered a more potent version of the popular roadster.

Beyond factory-produced vehicles, Mazdaspeed also offered a range of performance parts and accessories for enthusiasts looking to enhance their own Mazda vehicles. This included items such as suspension components, exhaust systems, engine upgrades, and wheels.

In 2015, Mazda announced that it would phase out the Mazdaspeed performance sub-brand. While the dedicated Mazdaspeed models were discontinued, Mazda continues to offer sportier variants of its vehicles, such as the Mazda3 Turbo and the MX-5 Miata Club, which carry on the spirit of performance and driving engagement associated with the Mazdaspeed legacy. The name Mazdaspeed is still recognized by enthusiasts as representing a significant era of performance in Mazda's history.
