Mauchlys

Mauchly is a surname of German origin. It is most notably associated with John Mauchly (1907–1980), an American physicist and computer pioneer who co-invented ENIAC, one of the first general-purpose electronic digital computers.

With J. Presper Eckert, Mauchly designed ENIAC at the Moore School of Electrical Engineering, University of

Pennsylvania,
for
the
U.S.
Army
during
World
War
II.
The
project
culminated
in
a
1945
completion
and
a
1946
public
demonstration,
and
it
influenced
subsequent
computer
hardware
and
software
design.
In
1947
the
pair
founded
the
Eckert-Mauchly
Computer
Corporation
to
commercialize
computing
devices;
the
company
was
later
acquired
by
Remington
Rand
in
1950,
contributing
to
the
development
of
the
UNIVAC
line.
The
surname
Mauchly
remains
relatively
uncommon
and
is
primarily
recognized
from
John
Mauchly's
contributions
to
computing
history.
