Marthanda
Marthanda Varma, commonly known simply as Marthanda, was the Maharaja of the Indian princely state of Travancore in present-day Kerala. He reigned from 1729 to 1758 and is widely regarded as the architect of Travancore’s modern state structure. A member of the Anizham Thirunal dynasty, he centralized authority, reformed revenue administration, and established a standing army to expand and defend the kingdom.
